Any
injury, disease or disorder that affects your arm, wrist or hand
can have a big impact on your day-to-day life. Here at CHRISTUS Spohn Rehabilitation Services, we can help you regain
strength, coordination and function.
When
you put your hands in our care, you get individualized treatment
from experienced, registered occupational therapists.
We
treat a wide variety of conditions, including:
-
Fractures of the elbow, wrist or fingers.
-
Injury to tendons or nerves.
- Repetitive
motion disorders, such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow.
- Soft
tissue disorders, such as ganglia—tumor-like cysts on the
hands or wrists.
-
Burns.
-
Disability after stroke.
At
your first visit, a therapist will evaluate your condition and help
you set goals for your recovery.
Various
treatments can help rehabilitate the hand, arm and wrist. The choice
of treatment depends on the injury, speed of healing and treatment
goals. Treatment may include:
-
Hot and cold packs.
-
Electrical stimulation, which uses low-level electrical currents
to help improve strength, range of motion and muscle control.
-
Ultrasound, which uses sound waves to warm tissues below the skin,
relieving tightness and loosening scar tissue.
-
Paraffin, which warms the hands to ease stiffness and relieve
pain.
- Splinting
to limit motion during healing.
-
Scar management to prevent tissue buildup that could interfere
with movement.
-
Therapies to prevent and manage swelling.
-
Exercises to increase arm and grip strength.
-
Activities to improve coordination and fine motor skills.
-
Education to help you understand the therapy process and what
you can do at home to speed recovery and avoid reinjury.
